FAQs
Frequently Asked (and answered) Question
Q: I’m not Jewish. Can I still attend your Congregation?
A: Absolutely! Here at Beit HaMashiach, everyone is welcome. We are a congregation of both Jewish and non-Jewish believers united in our faith in Yeshua (Jesus) and our love for God’s Truth!
Q: What does “Messianic” mean?
A: Messianic is believing that Yeshua is God’s promised Messiah, and that it is through His death and resurrection that we find our atonement. He is the way unto the Father. We also believe that the whole of the Scriptures is God’s Word for us today. We worship God the way Yeshua did, 2000 years ago, in a Jewish context.
Q: Can I learn Hebrew at your congregation?
A: Each year we offer an introductory Hebrew course where you can learn how to read and write in Hebrew.
Q: What holidays do you celebrate?
A: We celebrate God’s appointed holy days which we find in Scriptures:
• Shabbat (Sabbath – Saturday)
• Passover
• Feast of Unleavened Bread
• Shavu’ot (Pentecost)
• Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets)
• Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)
• Sukkoth (Feast of Tabernacles)
• New Moons
• Purim
• Hanukkah
Q: Do you eat Kosher?
A: We eat Biblically Kosher, which means that we do not eat unclean foods according to Leviticus 11. This means we don’t eat pork nor shellfish, etc.
Q: Are you Orthodox?
A: We don’t consider ourselves to be “Orthodox” as that has a connotation with being very rabbinical, and we are not rabbinical. Although we do practice some rabbinical traditions (Such as wearing a tallit – prayer shawl) we do not enforce these practices and view them as merely enhancing our faith. We do, on the other hand view God’s commandments which are found in Scripture as being valid for our lives today.
Q: What can I expect to see at your worship service?
A: You’ll find in our worship a time of praise. Then we have some traditional liturgy and a Torah service. After that we have a teaching and then we close with some praise and traditional blessings. After services we have a fellowship meal and then we fellowship with each other afterwards.
